Warranties and Maintenance

Warranties

Workmanship

Ecofurb (UK) Ltd provides all customers with a Five Year Workmanship Warranty from the date of commissioning the system.  You can therefore be assured that if any issue arises with the quality of our workmanship you are covered for five years.  You will also have the opportunity to insure our workmanship warranty through the REAL Assurance Deposit and Advance Payment Scheme insurance scheme administrator (QANW).  Please refer to the leaflet on the Deposit and Advance Payment Scheme available to download for more details.

Manufacturer

Manufacturer's warranties for the main components of your system are provided within your Customer Handover Document Pack.  Length of warranty and specific requirements (such as registration) vary between manufacturer's.  Please make sure you read thoroughly upon receipt to check if you need to register your warranty.  The length of the warranty will have been provided to you on the technical data sheet at quote stage.

Extended product warranties are available with some manufacturers and if you are interested in this please ask us for more details.

Maintenance

Solar Photovoltaic Systems

Your solar photovoltaic system is relatively maintenance free.   However we strongly recommend that you ensure your modules are cleaned periodically, specifically throughout dry spells to avoid the accumulation of dust and debris that could affect the performance of the modules over time (please note that you will not be surprised to hear that the British climate means the regular rainfall generally cleans most dust and debris very well!).  With regards to the electrical installation we recommend that the electrical system be inspected every ten years for domestic installations and five years for industrial installations.  It is also recommended that once a month you visually inspect (from the ground!) the modules to see check the unlikely event of any issues arising.

Simple measures you can take to ensure the smooth running of your system include:

  • Visually inspecting the PV Array (safely from the ground!) for any defects.
  • To check your generation meter regularly to check that your system is generating as it should.
  • If you feel that your system is not generating efficiently you should check your inverter for any error codes.
  • Ensure that nearby trees do not become overgrown and shade your PV array.
  • If you feel that any of the above are not correct then please contact us immediately.

Please note that whilst the inverter will probably last longer, you must be aware that it may need replacing after ten years and almost certainly within the 25 year feed in tariff guarantee period.  This will be at a cost of around £1,000.00.  Some manufacturers offer significantly extended warranties and whilst there are offers often available you must consider whether the extended warranty is financially beneficial in comparison to replacing the inverter after the standard warranty period.

Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems

Like solar PV, your solar thermal installation will require little maintenance.  Again, we strongly recommend that you ensure the panels are cleaned periodically, specifically throughout dry spells to avoid the accumulation of dust and debris that could affect the performance of the panels over time (please note that you will not be surprised to hear that the British climate means the regular rainfall generally cleans most dust and debris very well!).

We recommend that the glycol within the system is checked and tested at least every 2-3 years and if necessary topped up or replaced.

If you have evacuated flat plate panels the vacuum should be checked every two years and re-evacuated every five years to ensure maximum efficiency.

Simple measures you can take to ensure the smooth running of your system include:

  • Visually checking the panels/tube array (safely from the ground) for any defects.
  • Keeping an eye on the pressure gauge on the pump station.  This should be around 3-5 bars.  Please note fluctuations are completely normal but if the gauge is showing no pressure please contact us immediately.
  • Keep an eye on the control panel display to check that the temperature is what you would expect for that time of year.  Remember in the summer months you can expect your system to reach high temperatures but in the winter months the temperature will be much lower.
  • Ensure that nearby trees do not become overgrown and shade your panel/tube array.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Like most other renewable energy solutions, air source heat pumps require very little maintenance.

Simple measures you can take to ensure the smooth running of your system include:

  • Visually inspecting the heat pump to check for any defects.
  • To ensure that there is a clear space around the heat pump to allow for sufficient air flow.  Eg not allowing grass or shrubs to overgrow around it or allowing items to be leant up against or around the heat pump.
  • To keep an eye on the control panel and report any sudden reduction in performance or other issue to us as soon as possible.

Please remember that if there is anything above that you are not sure about or have any other concern please do not hesitate to contact us on 01424 842888 where we will be pleased to help.  If you have an urgent issue then you can contact Darren on 07824 441 930 for out of hours assistance.
